REVIEW: Times Colonist October 16th 2008: SAMMY RIMINGTON, Visits New Orleans (Arhoolie Records)" British-born, George Lewis-inspired clarinettist Sammy Rimington embodies traditional New Orleans jazz. Joined by his band, The Hot Six, Featuring an international crew steept in traditional jazz, this was mostly recorded in the French Quarter at the Palm Court. Rimington and company unleash nine, juicy versions of the classic reportoire including a hair-raising reading of George Lewis's Burgundy Street Blues. Man, can Rimington play that clarinet!
He joined on a couple of boozy, bluesy, living room recordings by Beausoleil's Michael and David Doucet, Lars Edegran and Lionel Battiste, and wraps up a live, street rave-up of Sweet Georgia Brown with the Treme' Brass Band through a pre-Katrina Ninth Ward neighbourhood. It's a transcendent musical experience."
